Perfect Days, the film directed by Wim Wenders, tells the story of Hirayama (Koji Yakusho), a man who speaks little, humble but serene, who works as a cleaner in public toilets in Tokyo. Hirayama lives in a small house, surrounded by plants, and follows an assiduous and peaceful routine, which allows him to cultivate his passions: music, books, photography and trees. His neighborhood is full of small cafes, frequented by the same people every day, of bookshops, which mainly sell works by Patricia Highsmith or novels by young contemporary Japanese writers. Hirayama prefers to go to work in his minivan, perfectly equipped with every cleaning tool, while the lyrics of the Rolling Stones, Patti Smith or Lou Reed ring in his ears. Through what he hears or reads and the photos he takes, his story and past are revealed.
